Yvonne Haist
REGISTERED CLINICAL COUNSELLOR | SOMATIC EXPERIENCING PRACTITIONER, Somatic Transformation Practitioner
My Background
Since the late 1990’s I have been passionately involved in the study of somatic psychotherapies. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and a Certified Somatic Transformation Practitioner.
My practice experience expands over 35 years with work in a variety of practice areas including addictions, family work and cancer care. In addition to my private practice, I previously worked as an Assistant Teaching Professor for the School of Social Work at UVic. I currently train and mentor a diverse range of community practitioners in trauma-informed practice. As well, I develop and deliver curriculum on trauma work for the Justice Institute.
I am a member in good standing with the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC)
My Approach
My work draws on the wisdom of the body/mind to help resolve historical and current trauma, bringing people to a greater sense of groundedness and stability.
How I Can Help
My focus is on trauma work, particularly with respect to helping people to process life experiences and emotions without feeling overwhelmed. Often times nervous system dysregulation arises from medical procedures, accidents, assaults, institutional, interpersonal and systemic violence, abuse and neglect. Currently the covid-19 virus and its personal and social implications has added significant arousal and overwhelm to nervous systems that are already often quite dysregulated. My emphasis is on supporting a greater sense of calm, capacity and resilience.
